KBA-Metronic is represented in Italy by its partner Actim S.r.l., based in Lecco, in the north of the country. At the exhibition stand, Actim's managing director, Tiziano Maggi, answered questions from the mainly Italian-speaking prospective buyers. His words summarised the five successful days at the show quite precisely: "The Italian market remains an interesting one. Above all, the Genius 52UV's waterless UV technology has benefits that are more important today than ever before. This machine is an ideal solution for producers of advertising material, screen printing businesses and digital print shops. It is also an ideal addition to commercial printing companies, because it can print on a variety of plastic materials such as PVC, ABS, PS, PE, PET, and PC, as well as on sensitive papers and cardboards. The exceptionally good image reproduction impressed quite a few of those who attended", added Maggi. However, delegates from neighbouring countries, from the nearby Balkan states and from Africa were able to gather a great deal of information at KBA-Metronic's stand, and were fascinated by the numerous printing demonstrations. Grafitalia is thus by no means an exhibition for the local market alone.
The Genius 52UV can process plastic films of all kinds, and it is especially useful for the production of promotional materials like mouse pads, displays, envelopes, stickers, promotional items, sale wobblers, lenticular/3D-images, labels and tags, as well as all types of cards in ISO and DIN formats. The convenient B3 format is also in demand in the packaging industry. For example, high quality 3D-optic outer packaging can be printed. The Genius 52UV prints only with UV inks, with powerful UV driers ensuring that inks harden immediately. This, in turn, allows the printed substrates to be used again straight away. In contrast to conventional offset printing, no water and no powder is needed for the printing process. KBA-Metronic's short inking technology allows for consistent ink control without any variations because the screen roller places the exact amount of ink required on the substrate. The machine inks up very quickly, so needing only a few start-up sheets before a saleable result can be produced. This in turn makes it a very economical piece of equipment, especially with expensive substrates. In particular, the high-grade, photo-realistic print quality and the high degree of automation, ensuring fast job changeovers, make it economical even with small print runs. The five-color standard machine is available with a variety of options such as an integrated varnishing unit, and different delivery unit extensions to increase the gloss level of high-gloss varnishes. In addition, it is also available in a larger version for increased productivity. A Corona unit, with which the surface voltage of a variety of plastics can be improved to provide optimum adhesion for UV inks, can also be supplied on request.
It is well known that KBA-Metronic is also very active in the industrial marking system business sector. Other core competences include hot stamping, thermal transfer and laser systems, as well as inkjet technology. At Ipack Ima 2009, held in parallel to Grafitalia, visitors were impressed by products from Bacella Commerciale S.n.c., long-time KBA-Metronic cooperation partner.
