Johnson Controls Named to Business Ethics Magazine's list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens"

(PresseBox) (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, )
Business Ethics Magazine announced today that Johnson Controls has been included for the first time on its list of “100 Best Corporate Citizens.” The list appears in the Spring 2006 issue published today. Companies were chosen based on performance in eight stakeholder categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights, and product.

“This recognition is a testament to our commitment to sustainability,” said Charles A. Harvey, vice president, Diversity and Public Affairs. “We’ve learned that to succeed over the long term, we need to make investments not only in our businesses but also in our communities, in the environment and in our people. Our sustainability initiatives ensure that we will continue to have the results and the people we need to grow our business for generations to come.”

Harvey said one of the factors for the company’s global success has been its sustainable business practices. “From ensuring energy efficiency in commercial buildings, to recycling and developing batteries for hybrid vehicles, to developing employees to be its leaders for tomorrow, our approach to business supports our commitment to sustainability,” he said.

Johnson Controls’ commitment to sustainability has earned the company top national and international honors in head-to-head competition with the world’s best performing companies. Just this year, Johnson Controls has been recognized as one of Fortune Magazine’s “America’s Most Admired Companies,” as the winner of the World Diversity Leadership Council’s global “Corporate Diversity Innovation Award,” as one of “America’s Most Shareholder Friendly Companies” according to Institutional Investor, and as winner of the EPA’s “2005 Clean Excellence Award.” In addition, the company hosted a major energy policy speech by U.S. President George W. Bush in February 2006.

Johnson Controls has also achieved top financial performance. Fiscal 2005 marked the 59th consecutive year of sales increases, the 15th consecutive year of earnings increases, and the 30th successive year of dividend increases. Dividends have been paid consecutively since 1887.

“Being a good corporate citizen requires focus, dedication, and hard work. The companies on our list are to be congratulated for their performance,” said Michael Connor, Publisher and Executive Editor of Business Ethics.

Johnson Controls is a global leader in interior experience, building efficiency and power solutions.
