At its headquarters in Monheim, Jenoptik's Traffic Solutions division participates in a project for a family-friendly work environment. As one of six companies in Monheim the division was a founding member of the family association Familiengenossenschaft Monheim eG, on August 20, 2013. Its goal is the creation of a new and modern day care center accommodating 50 children from Monheim and the surrounding areas by August 1, 2014. Initially, Jenoptik's Traffic Solutions division will be able to use four of the childcare spots available.
Familiengenossenschaft Monheim eG will purchase a property from the city of Monheim and build a state-of-the-art day care center, which will then be operated by the workers' welfare association. The teaching approach employed by the center is based on a technical/scientific and bilingual early education concept.
"For Jenoptik an attractive environment is an important locational and competitive factor," says Michael Mertin, CEO of JENOPTIK AG. "Particularly young families attach significant importance to family-friendly workplaces when selecting their jobs and main places of residence. This is why we are expanding our commitment for employees and the region with the new day care center project."
"With this initiative the participating companies score points in the area of family-friendliness," adds Bernhard Dohmann, head of the Traffic Solutions division. "Only 2.4 percent of German companies currently offer their own day care facilities. And with this project we are able to consider the needs of our employees from the very start. This includes the proximity of the day care center to the workplace, flexible service hours and an innovative education approach."
Jenoptik also sponsors a family-friendly environment with childcare services at the Jena and Wedel locations. In September 2007, the "Saaleknirpse" day care center, which was built and sponsored by Jenoptik, opened for business right in front of the factory gates in Jena-Göschwitz. In May 2012, Jenoptik's Defense & Civil Systems division signed a cooperation agreement with the Fröbel Group for the "Wasserstrolche" day care facility in Wedel, near Hamburg.
