Jenoptik's Industrial Metrology division profits from global presence and delivers major international orders

(PresseBox) (Jena, )
The Industrial Metrology division is to equip three General Motors plants in Thailand, India and Uzbekistan with stateoftheart measurement equipment for the manufacture of crankshafts, total order value is approx. 5 million euros. The market environment remains difficult in 2010 but has stabilized at a low level.

The Jenoptik Industrial Metrology division is equipping the General Motors plants in Thailand, India and Uzbekistan with stateoftheart measurement technology. The customer was impressed with the overall concept as well as the international presence of the system provider for highprecision, contact and noncontact production metrology. In addition to providing the optimum technical solutions for the engine plants, an appropriate international service concept was also created in close collaboration of the Villingen-Schwenningen site in Germany (division's head office), Bangalore (India) and local partners. Since June 2008 the Jenoptik division has had a presence in India via a joint venture company.

Jenoptik's division supplies for the General Motors plants in India and Thailand automated, tactile final inspection measuring machines for crankshafts as well as other tactile and optical measurement machines for productionbased use and the respective metrology rooms. 1.0 liter and 1.2 liter diesel engines as well as 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter petrol engines are manufactured at the GM plant in India. In Thailand, there is an engine production plant for small truck diesel engines.

The orders have recently been awarded for the new engine plant in Uzbekistan which is operated jointly by General Motors and an Uzbekistan partner. Here Jenoptik is also supplying various measurement systems both for the metrology rooms as well as for the productionbased interim and final inspection. This plant will manufacture 1.2 and 1.5 liter petrol engines.

The quality requirements for the new generations of engines focus on lower fuel consumption, a reduction in wear and tear and a higher ecofriendliness. To this end, General Motors is investing in new, stateoftheart measurement technology in the manufacturing process and final inspection and for this is turning to Jenoptik's expertise in metrology. Jenoptik's Industrial Metrology division is represented worldwide and so is able to meet the demand from multinational automotive and supplier groups by providing globally integrated offerings and service concepts. Last year, there was a significant fall in the business of the division which is dominated by the automotive industry although this has since stabilized at a low level.

The Jenoptik Industrial Metrology division will be showcasing its comprehensive range of products in March this year for example at the Control France trade fair, from March 22 to 26 in Paris.
