Based on the current and anticipated growth in sales in energy systems the Jenoptik Group has expanded and modernized its capacities at the Altenstadt site. In the previous and current fiscal year a total of approx. 8 million euros was invested in an optimized production facility which now covers an area of 3,000 sq. m. At Altenstadt the Defense & Civil Systems division of the Jenoptik Group develops and manufactures reliable and efficient high output energy systems for use in the defense and railway industry. The new production facility is the largest investment in the 60 year history of Lechmotoren which today forms a part of the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division.
The new production facility, the official opening of which today was attended by the Deputy Head of District Authority Andrea Jochner-Weiß, Altenstadt's Mayor Albert Hadersbeck, the Reverent Siegfried Beyrer, Priest of Altenstadt as well as Jenoptik Chairman Dr. Michael Mertin, almost doubles the size of the production area. At the opening ceremony the Jenoptik Chairman referred to the strong growth achieved by Lechmotoren which had been acquired by Jenoptik end of 2003. "The new facility testifies to the success of the products and in particular therefore also to that of the committed employees at the Altenstadt site. It secures the future growth of this area of business and simultaneously gives an incentive to all of us" said Michael Mertin.
With this investment the optoelectronics group is ensuring that it can meet the current and future increasing demand for high output electricity supply systems. Equipment and processes can now be planned and implemented on the basis of state-of-the-art production methods. The new facility includes an ultramodern paint shop that meets the latest environmental requirements, a testing area in which large assemblies can also be put through their paces prior to delivery, as well as modern equipped offices and rest rooms.
The new production hall with a height of 13 meters is equipped with corresponding crane systems. The entire Jenoptik Altenstadt site is therefore ideally equipped to meet future challenges and the increasing demands of the market. These include e.g. electricity supply systems that have to deliver significantly higher electrical output and are therefore also becoming larger and heavier.
In Germany Jenoptik is seen as one of the key suppliers of subsystems and components for the defense industry. The Defense & Civil Systems division focuses on the areas of aircraft and aircraft equipment, drive and stabilization technology, optoelectronic instruments and systems for the defense and security industry, software, measurement and control technology as well as a comprehensive range of services. In the area of mobile and static electricity supply systems the Defense & Civil Systems division, particularly at the Altenstadt site, can look back over decades of success in the supply of these systems to domestic and foreign clients.
