The stock exchange listed company I.R.I.S., (EURONEXT Brussels: IRI), specialized in Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR) , Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and complex infrastructure for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) , is pleased to announce that it has been contracted by the Belgian Ministry of Justice to extend its integrated document management solution to an additional 22 Judicial Districts.
Late 2006, I.R.I.S. was selected by the Ministry of Justice for the initial test phase of the JustScan project following a public call for tenders. As of 2007, 5 pilot locations (the Judicial Districts of Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Liège and Mons) were supplied with the I.R.I.S. solution. At the end of 2010, the satisfaction of the users and decision-makers lead to the signing of a new contract: I.R.I.S. is now in charge of expanding the project to the 22 remaining Judicial Districts in the country.
The solution consists of a mix of I.R.I.S. technologies for scanning, recognition, compression and electronic management of documents to deliver digital judicial files. The software base of the solution consists of IRISPowerscan(TM) , IRISPdf(TM) Server, iHQC(TM) and IRISNext(TM) . The forecasted amount of judicial files to be processed by the system is almost 24 000 per year. Several big court cases have already benefited from the solution, leading to digital distribution of indexed and fully searchable documents involved in the cases, instead of paper copies - sometimes up to several million pages per trial.
The Belgian Ministry of Justice now puts in place a solution capable of providing a fully functional, partially centralised, electronic document management system based on web technologies that will nonetheless permit decentralised digitisation of documents. The provided solution enables storage, recovery and handling of documents and images while having the capacity to manage a predicted increase in the number and volume of trial files. The aim is to bring about reduced use of paper and totally electronic file management covering all the documentation needed in processing any future judicial file as well as to provide a web interface for all end users.
