FTTx Eastern Europe Summit Highlights the Need for Collective Effort to Implement Fibre into Lives

Successful Eastern Europe event builds up for even bigger Europe-wide discussion in Berlin next April at FTTx Europe Summit

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
The FTTx Summit Eastern Europe has finished with presentations by leading analysts and operators addressing the key topics required for successful deployment and roll-out of fibre networks.

The summit, taking place in Budapest this week, had a special focus around how to successfully implement the roll out of FTTH/B networks and issues like, cost and demand. The importance of joined up thinking between the technical and marketing departments to promote successful implementation and take up was emphasised throughout, as it was also revealed that on average just 17.5 percent of homes subscribed to FTTH/B, where it was available.

These figures were made available by international analyst house IDATE which revealed that implementation of fibre to the home/building (FFTH/B) has surpassed 41 percent across Europe but with take up by only 27.9 million homes.

The theme of the conference and exhibition was undoubtedly centred on acknowledging the commercial and technical problems and understanding what can be learned from projects which have already been deployed.

The first day of the summit began with case studies from Telekom Srbija about building a business case for FTTx and successfully deployed fibre followed by IDATE's presentation. There was also a special case study presentation from Deutsche Telekom which explained its access strategy for FTTx. Telekom Slovenije closed by identifying the technical and commercial issues to be considered when delivering super fast broadband to rural areas.

The second day featured a host of case studies from speakers, including an interactive round table discussion about determining how to finance the roll-out of fibre networks.

The event was sponsored by AFL, Emtelle, Maxcell and Netadmin Systems all of whom are companies working across Europe to successfully enable FTTH/B connectivity.

Samantha Aspinall, Senior Conference Director of Telecoms IQ responsible for the event commented: "We're reaching a critical point in terms of fibre to the home and building and it's important to understand and recognise commercially what is needed for the many projects underway to succeed.

"FTTx Eastern Europe is a vital platform to discuss these issues and that's why the 2013 event in Berlin promises more case studies about the successful implementation of fibre across Europe and the next steps we all need to embark on for the successful implementation of fibre in every home."
