Sackmann nutzte den sportlichen Anlass, für die weitere Vertiefung der chinesisch-bayerischen Wirtschaftsbeziehungen zu werben: "Der Handel zwischen China und Bayern wird von Jahr zu Jahr enger. Die Entwicklung ist wirklich beeindruckend. So hat sich von 1990 bis 2006 das Handelsvolumen China-Bayern um das 18fache auf 13,8 Mrd. € erhöht. China ist mit Abstand unser wichtigster Handelspartner in Asien." Der Freistaat habe mittlerweile einen Anteil von fast 8 % an den Exporten der EU nach China.
Viele namhafte bayerische Unternehmen seien bereits seit Jahren in China aktiv. Umgekehrt würden sich auch zunehmend chinesische Unternehmen in Bayern niederlassen. "Die Liste der Ansiedlungen im Freistaat wächst kontinuierlich. Erst kürzlich gab der chinesische Solarzellen-Hersteller China Sunergy bekannt, zukünftig von seiner Europazentrale in München aus europaweit Marketing und Vertrieb zu koordinieren." Für Bayerns Wirtschaftsstaatssekretär Sackmann unterstreicht die Ansiedlung von China Sunergy die hohe Attraktivität und Spitzenstellung des Freistaats in der Umwelttechnologie und Energietechnik.
Das bilaterale Handelsvolumen zwischen Bayern und China ist 2006 im Jahresvergleich um 28,5 % auf insgesamt 13,8 Mrd. Euro gestiegen. Damit ist China vor Japan und Südkorea Bayerns wichtigster Wirtschaftspartner in Asien und weltweit sechstgrößter Handelspartner. Bis Ende September 2007 betrug das Handelsvolumen bereits 11,6 Mrd. €. Der Freistaat konnte seinen Anteil an den deutschen Exporten nach China kontinuierlich auf zuletzt 18,8 % (Stand 09/2007) steigern.
