To assure its consumers of the safety and quality of imported goods, the Government of Uganda through the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has re-instated a series of guidelines known as a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity to Standards Programme (PVoC) beginning 1st June 2013. The PVoC verifies the conformity of all regulated products and enforces their standards. Compliance to PVoC requirements is applicable in addition to any existing import processes. Non-conformity can result in severe delays in goods clearance, penalties or even shipments being returned to the country of export.
