Race Network RFID – Raising Awareness and Competitiveness in Europe

(PresseBox) (Bremen, )
The Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) has joined the European network "Race Network RFID" as an Associate Member. The Race Network RFID is a new EU thematic network project on the initiative of the European Commission with the aim to concentrate the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) know how of the member states and to position the EU as a world leader concerning this technology. The wish is to exploit the opportunities in the fields of development, implementation and usage and to create awareness towards RFID. All in all it is planned to seek RFID within the mainstream of information and communication technologies.

To reach the project's purposes, the members of the Race Network RFID participate in different work packages. For example these work packages examine the current RFID usage in the different sectors of the industry, analyze the market concerning this technology or try to find a way to sensitize the public awareness in terms of RFID.

ISL gained experience with the use of RFID technology through several projects. Especially in the field of container transport and security, projects like CHINOS or PIER were successfully carried out. The current project, which contains important RFID aspects, is called INTEGRITY.
