"We are especially proud of this decision, because it has been the result of a selection process comparing various systems worldwide from different vendors" says Dr.-Ing. Holger Schütt, head of ISL s competence section Optimisation and Simulation. The determining factors are the flexibility of the system and the user-friendly interface which allows the usage of SCUSY by DP Worlds own consultants. An other factor is ISL s professional experience in the field of shipping economics which is reflected in SCUSY s practical design and can be used in additional services (i.e.forecasts of terminal throughput and fleet development).
SCUSY was developed as a tool for decision-making on the strategic planning and design level. With the aid of the simulation model SCUSY, it is possible to investigate the planning and design of container terminals. The design concerns the layout and the deployment of equipment. The interdependence of these two factors is a focal point of the model, i. e. it investigates what kinds of available areas, what types of equipment and in which way the handling systems are to be deployed. The evaluation of the simulated container terminal is carried out with regard to economic and technical aspects. SCUSY has been sold to more than 20 customers worldwide and moreover ISL experts use their simulation tools in several consulting projects.
