Die Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK) Bonn/Rhein-Sieg begrüßt die Fortschritte am Bonner Bahnhofsvorplatz. „Die Stadt Bonn hat bald wieder einen attraktiven Eingang in die City,“ so IHK-Vizepräsidentin Tanja Kröber. Schon im April eröffneten die ersten Geschäfte im Maximiliancenter, die drei Gebäudekomplexe auf dem Nordfeld nehmen Gestalt an. Kröber: „Dadurch können wieder zusätzliche Menschen in die Bonner Innenstadt gelockt werden und Reisende können sich bei der Ankunft wohler fühlen. Dazu werden sicher auch die großzügigeren Flächen zwischen Straße und Gebäuden beitragen.“ In der City fehle vom ursprünglichen Einzelhandelsdreieck - so die IHK - nur noch das Viktoriakarrée, für welches nach der Bürgerwerkstatt noch keine klare Planung vorliegt. Ob sich die von der Verwaltung vorgeschlagene Bebauung mit kleinteiligem Einzelhandel tatsächlich realisieren lässt, sei zurzeit nicht klar. Da sich die Rahmenbedingungen für Einzelhandelsprojekte zurzeit schwierig darstellen würden, müsse gut überlegt werden, wie es dort weiter gehe. IHK-Geschäftsführer Prof. Dr. Stephan Wimmers: „In der Bonner Innenstadt sind die Mieten für Einzelhandelsnutzungen derzeit rückläufig. Ob dies allein auf die zurzeit schwierige verkehrliche Erreichbarkeit der Innenstadt mit dem Auto zurückzuführen oder das Onlinekaufverhalten dafür ursächlich ist, können wir schlussendlich noch nicht feststellen.“
