The CMOS versions are equipped with the tried-and-tested 1/2 inch sensor from Aptina. In addition to an outstanding price-performance ratio, they also deliver fast frame rates of up to 15 frames per second. Camera frame rates during binning, subsampling and AOI are also considerably higher compared to CCD models, thanks to technological advantages. IDS is building the 5 Megapixel CMOS sensor into all of its camera series—from the powerful GigE camera to the small 44 x 44 mm board level version.
In contrast, the high-resolution CCD cameras with their 2/3-inch sensor with global shutter from Sony are also ideal for capturing moving images, as in automation technology or in traffic surveillance; up to 10 frames per second can be captured. The 3.45 µm pixel size ensures very high light sensitivity in this resolution class. The CCD sensor is included in the standard USB and GigE models and in related series in the robust IP65/67 design.
