IDC Energy Insights IDC MarketScape Evaluates IT Service Providers in EMEA Utilities Market

Accenture and Capgemini noted as leaders

(PresseBox) (Framingham, MA, )
IDC Energy Insights today announced a new IDC MarketScape, “IT Service Providers in the EMEA Utilities Market 2013 Vendor Assessment,” (Document # EIOS02V). The new report examines vendors' ability to supply utility companies, services that support enterprise processes and, even more importantly, core business processes including innovation related to smart grid, smart energy services, smart generation, and smart customer management. This IDC MarketScape also evaluates service providers' capabilities related to the deployment of cloud, big data and analytics, mobility, and social media in the specific context of utilities business. According to the report, Accenture and Capgemini are noted as the Leaders while Atos, CGI, IBM, TCS, Tieto, T-Systems, and Wipro are considered Major Players and BearingPoint, HP, Infosys and NTT DATA are viewed as Contenders.

The market for IT services in the EMEA utilities industry makes up over half of the total IT spending. In fact, according to the "Worldwide Utility IT Spending Guide, 2010-1015, Version 2" (Document # EI236026), the EMEA market for IT services to the utilities industry will reach $9.7 billion at the end of 2013. The new report presents an analysis of IT service providers’ quantitative and qualitative characteristics to provide metrics and context for utilities evaluating vendors in this area, and will help analyze vendors' comparative success in the marketplace and anticipate vendors' offering evolution. The evaluation is based on a comprehensive and rigorous framework that assesses vendors relative to the criteria and highlights the factors expected to be the most influential for success in the market in both the short and long term.

"When selecting IT service providers, utility companies need to first consider their own company strategy and objective, as well as organizational and process maturity, IT enterprise architecture and application strategy. This provides guidance for their specific procurement strategy," said Roberta Bigliani, Head of Europe, Middle East, and Africa, IDC Energy Insights. "Overall, IT service providers need to support utilities in coping with their business imperatives and in securing the flexibility and business agility needed to perform in the evolving market context.”

The new MarketScape can support utility companies in their internal evaluation process of suppliers, in order to:
  • Get a first independent assessment of IT service providers in the EMEA utilities market
  • Integrate the list of companies they might request proposals from
  • Leverage criteria in their own individual evaluation process
