Demands for Efficiency Will Drive Worldwide Document Solutions Software Revenues to $5.5 Billion in 2015, IDC Says

(PresseBox) (Framingham, Mass., )
The worldwide market for hardcopy peripherals is in the midst of profound change as emphasis shifts from simple print devices to more comprehensive document solutions that increase efficiencies and control costs associated with printing in business environments. According to a new forecast from International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide document solutions software revenues will grow from $3.4 million in 2010 to $5.5 billion in 2015.

"Software designed to incorporate documents into a more streamlined business workflow represents tremendous opportunity over the forecast period," said Ron Glaz, program director, Digital Imaging Solutions and Services. "This market will experience unprecedented growth as users demand more effective device management, paper to digital document management, and output management."

The mobile device explosion is also positively impacting document solutions. The growing adoption of mobile devices within businesses offers new output opportunities, while creating a need for new content management solutions to secure business-critical information. Worldwide, mobile printing solution software will grow from $68.3 million in 2010 to $1.0 billion in 2015, a 71.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Additional research findings include the following:

- Authentication, Authorization, and Security software revenues will experience double-digit growth rates through the forecast period.
- The worldwide paper/digital document management solutions segment continues to be the largest in dollars.
- Networked hardcopy peripherals (hardwire or wireless) and mobile devices are putting additional strain on IT for secure monitoring and management.
- Output management vendors will further automate their output management solutions using process standards to increase IT organizations' flexibility.

The IDC study, Worldwide and U.S. Document Solutions 2011-2015 Forecast (IDC #230756), examines the market for document solutions software that leverage MFPs, document imaging scanners, and printers. It analyzes the worldwide and U.S. document solutions markets with specific emphasis on paper to digital document management, device management, and output management. These three segments are further broken out where paper-to-digital document management includes the following sub-categories: document capture/scanning/conversion/routing, document repository/archiving and management, and forms processing. Device management and control is comprised of device management and diagnostics, document accounting and authentication, authorization, and security. Enterprise output management includes output management and mobile printing

The study also describes the growing revenue opportunity represented by document solutions for hardcopy peripheral vendors and their solutions partners, and examines revenue for both software licenses and the associated maintenance/service fees.
