Martina Lenk, Managing Director of Madsack Online GmbH & Co. KG and responsible for the switch to the eZ Publish platform, explains: "Before, we had to use services from our Web agency for practically every action and for every little change to the layout. The new content platform from eZ, on the other hand, has given us substantially more flexibility for our day-to-day work." While all of the sites are based on the same simple, easy-maintenance content platform, each of the Madsack portals has its own individual look. The multi-portal capability and the flexibility of the modular content platform were major factors in Madsack's decision in favor of eZ Publish Premium. By contrast to community-driven development models, users of eZ Publish Premium receive service and support from the provider, eZ Systems. That means that eZ Publish Premium combines the innovation capability and openness of an open-source product with the total product responsibility of its provider, eZ Systems.
"We now have one online basis for all companies," Lenk says. "This makes it much easier to distribute the content - our texts and images." eZ Publish now allows Madsack to manage the platforms automatically and centrally while also enabling editorial interventions by the various regional editorial desks. The features enabled by eZ Systems also include interfaces to the print system Madsack uses, DTI, and to the news channel operated by the dpa news agency. The titles published by Madsack whose websites now run on the shared eZ Publish Premium content platform include: the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (haz.de); Neue Presse (neuepresse.de); Göttinger Tageblatt und Eichsfelder Tageblatt (goettinger-tageblatt.de); Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung (paz-online.de); Oberhessische Presse (op-marburg.de); Schaumburger Nachrichten (sn-online.de); the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung and Aller Zeitung (waz-online.de); as well as the Waldeckische Landeszeitung and the Frankenberger Zeitung (wlz-fz.de).
