Sampling rate for the first time freely adjustable to up to 100 ksamples/s

Fast acquisition and recording of analog signals with ibaPADU-4-AI-U

(PresseBox) (Fürth, )
iba AG enters new speed classes in the field of sampling rates for industrial analog-digital converters. At the "Sensor+Test 2013" in Nuremberg, the German company presents its new ibaPADU-4-AI-U compact device, that offers a sampling rate which can be adjusted for the first time to up to 100 ksamples/s. "The ibaPADU-4-AI-U is a further development of the successful PADU technology and rounds off our product range of transducers to the upper end", Dr. Ulrich Lettau - CEO of ibaAG - explains. The measurement system with four electrically isolated inputs has been designed for acquiring and recording fast analog signals. The system can be used for special applications in test benches, in Condition Monitoring, for sound- and vibration measurement as well as for power quality measurements.

When doing test bench measurements for example, highly dynamic processes with sound frequencies up to the near ultrasonic range are being recorded. For meeting the measurement relevant requirements, ibaPADU-4-AI-U offers an integrated signal pre-processing with a sampling rate of 400 kHz. The signal that is sampled on the analog input with 400 kHz, is internally processed with a digital filter which can be freely configured up to the 14th order. This method - the so-called Oversampling - ensures that a steep-edge and high quality filtering of the signal to be acquired can be done. Hence, the signal can be digitalized with only low distortions. Selectable analog and digital antialiasing filters furthermore compensate disturbances caused by interferences and distortions. After downsampling to the selected sampling frequency (1 kHz to 100 kHz), the measurement system gets a high-quality signal which is available via the FO-interface. "In our new parallel analog-digital converter, the customer can determine the filter characteristics. This is of a great added value for example in the field of Condition Monitoring where it is all about filtering frequency components early on in the process", Dr. Lettau explains.

The customer can also define the so-called "Function block", by means of which predefined, technology specific virtual signals can be calculated. With this function, signal processing functions for special cases like calculating the RMS, determining frequencies, measuring amplitudes as well as boosts and cuts in the frequency band can be done. Another special feature of the ibaPADU-4-AI-U: The input signal level for each channel can be adjusted in several stages from ±250 mV up to ±24 V.

Following up on successful PADU technology

"In addition to these new functions for acquiring and recording fast signals, ibaPADU-4-AI-U also disposes of the well-known advantages of our PADU-technology", Dr. Lettau explains. The measurement system offers a simultaneous measured value acquisition for each channel. The signals are sampled in parallel in order to prevent falsifications. The analog inputs are electrically isolated, the terminals can be connected without the risk of short circuiting. Using the ibaPDA-V6 online data acquisition software, the user can moreover select and configure the signals conveniently. Due to their connectivity, the manufacturer independent iba measurement value acquisition systems can be connected to the automation systems and bus technologies of all common manufacturers and generations. The data are acquired, archived and analyzed across different systems.
