HighStep to present the world's first portable lift at Husum WindEnergy Fair

(PresseBox) (Zurich, )
For several years, lifts have been installed in windturbine towers to allow service personnel to climb to the gondola. Like in tall buildings such lifts are always stationary. They share the challenge that lifts have to be planned for early in the design phase.

But unlike in buildings, lifts for wind turbines are only needed rarely - therefore there is a significant imbalance between the cost and the benefit of such complex systems.

Now wind turbine manufacturers and operators can use HighStep with its newlyinnovated railbased climbing system.

HighStep offers the user a safe, ergonomic, and automated access to the gondola via a rail. The rail is attached to the entire length of the tower and can be scaled with various types of climbing gear, all of which are designed and offered by HighStep Systems AG.

Today a mechanical device for selfclimbing is available. At the Husum WindEnergy Fair the world's first portable, automatic lift will be presented.

The special feature of the HighStep system is that all climbing devices are mobile and easily transported - this applies also to the lift. It will be carried by a single person to the place of use.

The lift itself is lightweight, portable, and can be easily mounted onto the HighStep rail in very few steps. Cables are not necessary since the system works with rechargeable and replaceable batteries. A single battery charge ensures the lift can carry a payload of 150kg to a height of at least 1000 m.

Cost advantages of the HighStep system are clear: rather than install a fullsize lift in each tower on a wind farm, maintenance teams need only invest in one lift system which is transported from turbine to turbine in the service van.

The entire system is so compact that older turbines, for which no lifts were designed, can quickly and simply be retrofitted.

Swiss manufacturer HighStep Systems AG is proud to present the innovative features of their climbing system at the Husum WindEnergy Fair. All those interested are invited to visit the booth and take a test drive on the world's first portable lift.
