heat 11 delivers plant for tank farm heating to Saudi Arabia

(PresseBox) (Bielefeld, )
The Bielefeld specialist for heat transfer and thermal oil applications heat 11 has successfully delivered a plant with two heaters to Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. The heaters ensure the heating of large crude oil tank farms. Customer and installer of the tank farm is the Chinese CMTCC Shanghai SHISANYE CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd, one of the largest Chinese mechanical engineering companies.

CMTCC builds the plant in Yanbu, a harbor city on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. The plant is for the interim storage of crude oil before the further transport by ship and the subsequent processing (refining). So that the viscous crude oil can be transported at all by means of pumps and pipes, it will be heated up with the thermal oil heating plant supplied by heat 11.

Centerpieces of the heating plant are two thermal oil boilers fired with diesel oil with a capacity of 3.500 kW and 4.700 kW. With this heating capacity, once nine and once ten crude oil tanks each with a height of about 20 meters and a diameter of 25 meters are heated. The heat 11 scope of delivery includes the basic and detail engineering, the supply of the plant components with firing system, pump groups, steel construction, vessels and chimneys as well as the supervision of the assembly and the start-up at site. Furthermore the customer will be trained at site where the plant is installed.

The location of the tank farm at the Red Sea on the Arabian Peninsula has special requirements on the plant components that must operate reliably at very high humidity, extreme temperature changes and even during sandstorms. "All plant components have therefore been optimized with respect to these requirements," says Dr. Dietmar Hunold, general manager of heat 11. "The improvements comprises in particular the surface coating, the housing and design of the control and switch panels as well as the combustion air supply of the burners which are equipped with special sand traps," continues Hunold.

With the heating capacity of the entire plant, a village with 1.000 inhabitants could be supplied with heat. The start-up of the plant is scheduled for early 2013.
