Industry 4.0: HARTING solutions connect virtual and real production world

Focus on Cyber Physical Systems (CPS)

(PresseBox) (Espelkamp, )
In industry, the real and virtual world are interlinked with the help of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) - the real production process is brought into the world of internet in the course of Smart Factories. The links here are multi-layered, they range from connectors up to system integration. At the SPS IPC Drives fair (November 25 to 27, 2014) HARTING puts the focus on connectivity and shows which electromechanical connections the Smart Factory needs.

"No topic will occupy the producing companies so much in the coming years as the changes for Industry 4.0. It is the fulcrum of technological change. We supply our customers with the individual solutions here", says Philip Harting, President of the HARTING Technology Group. With the interlocking of automation and IT, companies large and small will have to come to terms with it, as Harting stresses. Consequently, the comprehensive HARTING product range for "Integrated Industry" is at the center of HARTING's stand at the trade fair in Nuremberg.

Here HARTING is presenting solutions for the Smart Factory with the example of the "FlexiMon" plant. The HARTING Technology Group and the University of Bielefeld (CoR Lab) use this plant to show how the control of production systems could look in the future.

Another focus point of the fair presentation covers innovations in the area of High Speed Ethernet. A field-installable X-coded M12 connector solution is now also available for the Gigabit Ethernet range of applications. Apart from its highly convenient HARAX® rapid termination technology, the extremely slim design also stands out.

HARTING has supplemented its product portfolio for the Gigabit Ethernet range of applications with a slim version featuring IDC connection technology. Utilization scenarios for the new X-coded, 8-pin har-speed M12 arise everywhere in automation technology where a cable needs to be attached quickly or adapted on site. Particular attention was given to cable set-up when designing the insulation displacement contact. In order to ensure the uninterrupted performance of the connection, the twisting of an STP cable must be maintained for as long as possible, since it is drawn deep into the mating face.
