Geneva Motor Show: Rinspeed car "Etos" equipped with HARTING MICA

Emissions monitoring in the vehicle / Highlight at the Hannover Messe too

(PresseBox) (Espelkamp / Geneva, )
After the CES in Las Vegas in January, the new Rinspeed concept car “Etos” is now going under the spotlight at the Geneva Motor Show (3 to 13 March 2016). Attention will also be focussed on a smart mini-industrial computer made by the HARTING Technology Group – the HARTING MICA. The HARTING MICA (Modular Industry Computing Architecture) carries out emissions and status monitoring on the vehicle. The Swiss automotive manufacturer Rinspeed was highly impressed by this digital solution from the company specialised in industrial connectivity solutions.

The HARTING MICA is a modular platform made up of open hardware and software components which can be adapted quickly and cost-effectively to many industrial areas of application. Deployed in the “Etos”, the MICA continuously records and transmits drive and engine data, using sensors and RFID tags, which is then evaluated and processed by an independent and neutral body (Dekra) as agreed by the customer and contract partner beforehand. This enables specific statements to be made about the credibility of the mileage status.

“The MICA is transparent, diverse and extraordinary,” remarked Dr. Jan Regtmeier, Director of Product Management, HARTING IT Software Development, who primarily sees mobile and stationary machinery and plants as target markets. They can be interconnected and linked up to the data cloud cost-effectively and efficiently. “Thanks to the modular kit made up of various hardware and software interfaces, there are no boundaries set on imagination.”

In view of these strengths, HARTING has also launched a competition. Awards will be presented at the Hannover Messe for the most creative and interesting ideas. After the Geneva Motor Show, the “Etos” and the MICA will feature as the highlights of the HARTING Technology Group's trade fair stand at the Hanover Messe (25 to 29 April 2016, hall 11, C 13).

The Swiss automotive visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht, CEO of Rinspeed AG, was highly impressed: “When people are talking about smart mini computers, the saying ‘Who invented it?’ aptly fits the MICA.”
