A well-rounded affair

How to create a variety of KVM solutions

(PresseBox) (Wilnsdorf, )
The dimension of Guntermann & Drunck's product range only begins to show if the devices are right in front of you. The presentation table at the booth of the German manufacturer grows from year to year. After recognizing that this is only a small selection of G&D products, the famous product variety from Germany's KVM forge becomes even more apparent. Moreover, G&D added various new products to their portfolio. No wonder not all devices could be presented on the presentation table, yet they all present G&D's comprehensive knowledge.

Entire KVM extender range with USB 2.0

All multi-signal extenders now transmit USB 2.0 signals. Since all features can be freely selected, you only pay for what you really need.

Consider the expansion of the dual-link DVI-compliant extender DL-Vision a special highlight. G&D has increased the original transmission distance of 400 metres to 10,000 metres. Additionally, the DL-Vision now also includes the Screen-Freeze function, which usually is only available as premium option. If the connection or the graphics card fail, this function still provides the last available image.

New KVM switches

Three new eight-port versions now add to the range of switches. The VGA keyboard/mouse switch miniMUX and the keyboard/mouse-only switch TradeSwitch are provided in variants connecting 2, 4, or 8 computers.

The sector of DVI-compliant KVM switches brings you the new DVIMUX8-OSD as PS/2 or USB version. Now you can use an on-screen display to adjust any settings according to the user's needs or the safety policies of the operating environment.

New technology cancels port restrictions

There's also current news from the sector of KVM matrix switches. The DVICenter DP32 with its new Dynamic Port technology gives the user unimaginable freedom. The matrix switch cancels defined parameters and limitations for keyboard/mouse, single-link DVI, and audio, since computer and user ports can now be freely chosen. The new DVI-FiberLink(S) increases the distance between computer and console to several kilometres. The device also supports vertical fibre optics cabling of buildings. An extension with the same functions is also available for the CATCenter NEO.

Action vs. reaction

G&D even offers novelties beyond the classical hardware sector. Many KVM products with network port provide the monitoring function. The devices monitor themselves as well as the external interfaces of all active and redundant computers and also highlight any potential failures. Device statuses are displayed as warnings in the web interface, as Syslog messages or forwarded via SNMP trap. The monitoring function monitors:

- main and redundant power supply
- connection of keyboard/mouse at console and computer
- video and USB transmission
- monitor and network connection
- device temperature

How to create such variety

According to the exhibition staff, all products are developed according to customer requests and applications. Being closely connected to the market, listening to customers and high flexibility are the main features that make the German manufacturer so successful.
