At Fensterbau Frontale, GEZE will be presenting new, innovative solutions for building and room automation, which deliver overall improvements to living and working in modern, intelligent buildings. They make buildings more comfortable, increase security in the building, reduce energy consumption and create new visual possibilities. Automated and networked building functions with solutions from GEZE offer profitable benefits to door and window manufacturers, the trades, architects, planners, building operations, investors and users.

Smart Buildings: networked solutions are defining the future

GEZE offers a wide-ranging product portfolio for opening and closing windows. The highlights of the trade fair presentation are new interface solutions for integrating GEZE products into the system world of intelligent building networking. For this, GEZE uses the established and open communication standards of home and building systems technology (KNX and BACnet).

Intelligent ventilation in the KNX environment

With GEZE, the "Windows" trade is becoming smart because access to the KNX world is easy with the IQ box KNX. For controlled, natural ventilation, the IQ box KNX facilitates the combination of the intelligent window drives from the IQ windowdrive series in the KNX building bus. It creates new possibilities in building automation and therefore many advantages: more convenience and security, a more pleasant and healthier indoor climate as well as lower energy consumption.

With the interface module IQ box KNX, IQ windowdrives can be integrated into KNX building systems as direct bus participants. Window statuses (e.g. open/closed) can be displayed on a central visualisation panel, and controlled and checked from there. Not only can the automatic windows be opened and closed remotely from a central location, they also facilitate direct communication with other components in the KNX building system, such as KNX push buttons and KNX sensors. In this way, all windows in a building can be closed at the push of a button from a central point. If a weather station reports rain or a certain wind speed, the window drives receive the signal to close from the IQ box KNX. With KNX air-quality sensors, the windows can be controlled depending on the CO2 concentration, humidity or room ambient temperature. Thanks to the precise control of the window drives, the KNX box facilitates controlled ventilation not only for a better indoor climate, but also for energy-saving potential.

The IQ box KNX offers additional security: in contrast to simple switch contacts, it uses the intelligence of the window drives and after performing a "command" reports the status of a window to the KNX building system or building management system. Additional window information is also provided by the module, e.g. the precise opening width (as a percentage), any faults or, as "predictive maintenance", the number of opening and closing cycles.

Profitable advantages: comfort and efficiency through flexibility

For facility managers or building operators, building monitoring becomes more comfortable, efficient and cost-saving with automatic windows integrated into a KNX building system. Metal processors, window manufacturers and electrical fitters can extend their range of products with the IQ box KNX and exploit greater market potential.

The bus technology facilitates flexible building planning: the IQ box KNX is easily scalable, from a small room ventilation with a few windows to complete networking and integration of all automatic windows into the building management system.

The KNX standard creates planning certainty for technical planners and installation engineers because the IQ windowdrives integrated into KNX building systems can communicate with other elements, e.g. light controls, heating controls, air-conditioning technology, alarm systems and shading systems, via the common KNX standard. Thus the communication, e.g. between control and the intelligence of the window drives, provides energy-saving potential. Windows close when the heating or air-conditioning is activated. Natural ventilation then occurs automatically. If needs change, they can be adapted easily by the users by specifying new ventilation scenarios on a KNX visualisation panel.

Being able to make structural and technical building changes quickly and with little effort is not only becoming more important in office buildings. Through KNX bus technology, extensive recabling is also superfluous when changing use. With the IQ box KNX, "upgrades" of windows already fitted with IQ windowdrive drives and their integration into a KNX building system can also be performed.

IQ windowdrives for "intelligent" windows in KNX building systems – security, comfort and flexibility

As a system provider and specialist for individual solutions, with the IQ windowdrives window elements, GEZE is automating different sizes, weights, forms and types of opening – for various areas of use and different needs. With the IQ windowdrive series, GEZE is launching a variety of drive options for natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation. Thanks to state-of-the-art integrated control technology the drives can be flexibly combined and networked. For naturally controlled ventilation, they can also be integrated into KNX building systems via the interface module IQ box KNX.

The turn and tilt fitting system F 1200 Electric – great comfort for large windows

The IQ windowdrive series has been extended with the motorised turn and tilt fitting F 1200 Electric. This window system is recommended for very heavy and large-area windows, which could only be moved to the tilted position and closed again with great effort. F 1200 Electric enormously simplifies the natural, controlled ventilation in properties such as office buildings, schools, sports centres and hospitals.

F 1200 Electric is one of the few automatic turn and tilt fitting systems. As a result, window leaves weighing up to 200 kilograms can be opened 180 millimetres wide in a tilted position. The automatic tilted position allows smoothly adjustable ventilation – from gap ventilation to maximum opening width and final tilted position. For manual opening of the window leaf, the window fitting is unlocked via the drive and moved to the turn position. The possibility for turn opening can be restricted to specific persons using a key switch. An additional, optional operating error protection makes the system particularly robust and safe.

The fitting system fulfils other high demands in terms of security, robustness, stability, heat insulation and comfort. Exact fit and precise interaction of the fitting and window components guarantee perfect sealing. Water penetration, e.g. from driving rain, as well as cold and "unwelcome visitors" remain outside. The system also fulfils all requirements in respect of accessibility and can be operated from a comfortable height.

The IQ windowdrives: flexibility and design – smoke and heat extraction and comfortable ventilation

The chain drives Slimchain and Powerchain and the spindle drive E 250 NT have flexible uses: the Slimchain is the all-rounder with a narrow design, the Powerchain is the power package for large and heavy windows. The E 250 NT is the preferred solution for roof windows and skylight domes. Together with the locking drive Power lock, the drives represent optically standardised all-in systems for secure opening and locking of windows.

The drives differentiate between alarm (RWA) and ventilation mode, in other words a fast and maximum opening or a slow, limited and virtually noiseless opening. The adjustable drive stroke and the individually adaptable opening speed enable use on RWA and ventilation windows of various sizes and with different opening requirements. If an "RWA case" occurs, the drives can attain very large opening widths in under 60 seconds. With the locking drive Power lock, they form the IQ windowdrive product family with the universal GEZE design.

The integrated, intelligent control allows drives to be networked easily. The control unit ensures the sequential and safe opening and closing of the windows as well as the synchronisation of up to three drives.

GEZE supplies the drives complete with consoles. Installation is quick and easy thanks to the innovative Smart fix installation system. The drives simply have to be "clipped" to the consoles. In addition to the standard colours, they are also available in any desired RAL colour.

So that the windows can be opened and closed safely and no hands are trapped, GEZE implements the required safeguards – depending on the type of installation and the use – with sensors or protection strips.

The GEZE indoor climate control – for a variety of ventilation scenarios

The new GEZE indoor climate control for controlling natural and energy-saving ventilation extends the window drive and RWA range. Equipped with an interface based on KNX communication standards, it can be integrated into a KNX-based building system. Other KNX systems and drives or building technology components, such as sun protection systems, heating controls or air conditioning, can also be linked to the GEZE indoor climate control.

Individual, flexible and efficient automation, safety and comfort functions and thus various ventilation scenarios can be put into practice with GEZE solutions. The new control components for 24 V and 230 V window drives save energy and costs, for example, by bundling window drives, blinds and air-conditioning systems in one control. The control decides how the individual components are to be activated depending on sun radiation, or temperature. This reduces energy consumption and always ensures a "perfect climate" as a result of the automatic fresh air. Neither does it skip on security: in rain, strong winds or bright sunshine, windows or blinds close automatically. The central control of the GEZE indoor climate control is performed by push buttons or touchscreen. A simple enhancement with various additional sensors is possible at any time.

The new GEZE window protection – discreet and reliable "bodyguards"

The new GEZE window protection provides increased security and comfort. Planners, installation engineers, building operators and users are offered many advantages. It can be optimally combined with the window drive portfolio from GEZE. The sensors are used wherever they are needed according to a safety analysis and offer the high levels of safety standards according to Performance Level C.

Different window types can be secured, such as bottom-, top- or side-hung windows that open inwards and outwards. The GEZE window protection can be used for the large-scale protection of complete window sections and for individual or linked windows. Windows, which are controlled by a variety of ways, can also be secured: through a building management system, with offset control elements or corresponding sensors (e.g. the GEZE indoor climate control). If windows are integrated into a KNX building system and therefore are opened and closed automatically via the interface module IQ box KNX, the window protection deactivates the drive in the KNX building system in case of danger. The different sensor solutions can be integrated unobtrusively in façades, ceilings or frame elements. Commissioning is simple and convenient – without software, configuration or prefabrication. Status displays for the windows and signals can be issued at a central point, e.g. a control panel or LED display in a technology room.
