Ge:Net provides meteo towers for wind farm project in the Sahara

The largest single order and one of the most challenging projects in the history of Ge:Net GmbH

(PresseBox) (Clausthal-Zellerfeld, )
Before the end of September, Ge:Net will ship and install ten aluminium lattice towers, each equipped with a wind measurement system, from their own production in the eastern part of the Sahara Desert. This is the most substantial order Ge:Net GmbH has received in its company history so far. The measuring data collected with the company’s technology will serve as foundation for the compilation of a detailed wind atlas covering the region to the west of the Nil.

This part of the Sahara Desert is regarded as one of the most arid areas on the globe whose environmental conditions could not be more demanding. Maximum logistic performance will be called for to transport material, equipment and the entire food and water supply over long distances to the remote building site which is only accessible by highly robust off-road vehi-cles. The dry, intense desert heat will make assembly and installation work a supreme physi-cal challenge. And the technical components will have to function reliably over the measure-ment period of one year and guarantee close to 100 % data availability despite exorbitantly high temperatures and extreme thermal fluctuation. Since there is no GSM-net available in this region, the data will be transmitted via high-speed satellite connections.

However! Ge:Net can rely on its proficiency and experience in assembling and erecting their towers and measurement systems under such unfavourable conditions. Over the past ten years, the company has successfully installed towers and measuring systems in Libya, Saudi Arabia (Masdar City) and other Arabic states.

Safe installation and reliable running of wind measurement systems on difficult terrain and under extraordinary conditions has become a trademark of Ge:Net GmbH. And it will guaran-tee the success of the new wind measuring project in Egypt as well.

Ge:Net GmbH

Ge:Net provides turnkey wind measurement solutions for the wind farming industry inclusive towers, measuring systems, installation and maintenance. Even remote areas, difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions are no impediments for Ge:Net to install their meteo towers and deliver accurate data about wind potential on site. And with ten years of experience and more than 270 successfully installed meteo towers worldwide to look back on, the company guarantees competence and quality of highest standards.
