Centricity Solutions take South Denmark's Radiology departments to a new level

For the first time ever in Denmark GE Healthcare offers the ability to bring together various RIS/PACS systems from different vendors. The South Denmark region will work with one common Radiology system for better patient care

It was only a few weeks ago that GE Healthcare equipped Roskilde Amt with its Centricity RIS/PACS IT-Solution. The newly built region South Denmark will follow a similar strategy and implement GE’s Centricity RIS/PACS in the two former counties Fynen Amt and Sønderjylland Amt. Fynen Amt hosts the Odense University Hospital with approximately 1,100 beds, an estimated expenditure of 3.4 billion Danish krones and 6,500 employees. About 525,000 patients are examined in the two former counties. All together, the South Denmark region produces 800,000 radiography examinations annually.
Centricity RIS/PACS advanced applications, its ultra-fast image display and storage, voice control, business dashboard and a true enterprise PACS for radiology, cardiology and all other images, will revolutionize the radiology workflow of the complete region South Denmark. “Our Centricity RIS/PACS solution consequently follows international integration standards like IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise), and takes the vision of an interoperable healthcare infrastructure to the next level,” said Juergen Reyinger, General Manager, GE Healthcare Integrated IT Solutions, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Hospitals and radiologists connected to Centricity will be able to work together even though they have RIS/PACS solutions from different vendors. GE also has the tools, experience and know-how to integrate different existing hospital systems like e.g. Cambio EPR or Fyns’ own developed PACS system from 1965 called F-PAS.
The project aims at having one fully integrated system providing an effective digital workflow at regional level. Patient data and images will be exchanged among radiologists across hospitals. ”Clinicians will not only share critical radiological information but also their knowledge and experiences, leveraging this during their daily routine,” said Reyinger. New intelligent tools will be available for doctors at the right place and time, and will drive efficiency in the primary health sectors and diagnostic imaging departments alike.
After a strict tender procedure GE Healthcare was selected as the preferred vendor. According to the evaluation feedback from Fyns, the main criteria for choosing GE were IT and system design, the system’s future development possibilities and the user friendliness of GUI. The new Centricity installation will provide 75 diagnostic workstations, 140 RIS/PACS, 30 RIS, 90 clinical workplaces and 20 radiology conferencing rooms. More than 2,000 users will take advantage of Centricity Web, WebOrder and WebScheduler to access patient data and images and to order or book radiology exams from any department throughout South Denmark. ”We are very excited about the new possibilities we can now explore thanks to our cooperation in the area of modern radiology technology. There will certainly be many positive results that patients across the region will feel immediately,” concludes Bryde Nielsen, Project Manager Region South Denmark.
