Die langfristig angelegte Kooperation startet rechtzeitig zu den Alpinen Skiweltmeisterschaften in Val d'Isère (3. bis 15. Februar 2009), bei denen Maria Riesch zu den Top-Favoritinnen zählt.

In diesem Zusammenhang bietet Garmin auch eine Sammlung POIs (Points of Interest) speziell für Fans des alpinen Weltcups an. Darin enthalten sind natürlich die Rennorte mit den Start- und Zielpunkten, aber auch Parkplätze, Restaurants, Hotels, Events, Ticketshops und Freizeiteinrichtungen.
Maria Riesch führt derzeit die alpine Gesamt-Weltcupwertung an. Die Allrounderin zählt mit bereits vier Saisonsiegen, sechs Podestplätzen und zehn Top-Ten-Platzierungen in 15 Rennen zu den aussichtsreichsten Medaillenanwärterinnen für die WM. Die 24-jährige Garmisch-Partenkirchenerin ergänzt damit das Weltklasse-Athletenteam von Garmin, zu dem unter anderem Mountain-Bike Olympiasiegerin Sabine Spitz, Ironman Timo Bracht, Ex Triathlon-Weltmeister Tim Don oder die Radprofi-Teams Garmin Slipstream und Milram gehören.
