Liberty Alliance is an alliance of more than 150 companies, nonprofit and government organizations from around the globe. The consortium is committed to developing an open standard for federated network identity that supports all current and emerging network devices. Federated identity offers businesses, governments, employees, and consumers a more convenient and secure way to control identity information in today's digital economy, and is a key component in driving the use of e-commerce and personalized data services, as well as Web-based services. Since its foundation in 2001 fun communications is involved in the design and development of Liberty Alliance projects and now joined the consortium as Associate Member.
fun communications is presenting the authentication module SmartID at the CeBIT. With SmartID, authentication via smart card in Liberty Alliance infrastructures can be simply integrated and used as an alternative or replacement for entering usernames and passwords. The customer logs into a service with Liberty Alliance support using his username and password. If he then changes to another provider’s service, which also supports Liberty Alliance designs, then he does not have to enter any username or password there. The private sphere remains protected and the safety of personal data is guaranteed by the Liberty Alliance designs. The Liberty Alliance design facilitates protection and management of digital identities on the internet by means of a neutral and open standard.
