fun communications GmbH will be introducing the smartcard based digital signature module SmartSign at the CeBIT 2006. SmartSign enables the use of the electronic signature for the legally binding digital signature with ec- or bank and savings bank customer cards, EMV cards, signature cards as well as the new German digital identity card.

SmartSign can be used to seal secure and legally binding contracts on the internet, such as for example the opening of current and deposit accounts. To this end, SmartSign combines the security provided by trust centres conforming to laws governing signatures with the comfort of being able to conduct the entire procedure directly online. The signature module SmartSign can easily be integrated into any webportal.

SmartSign uses smartcards that are currently already in circulation in great numbers, such as the banking card like the ec- or bank and savings bank customer cards that are already in many German wallets. In addition, there are EMV cards, signature cards, as well as the digital identity card.

The digital identity card in the credit card format will transfer the universal identification function, just as is already the case for the identity card as a secure document for identification, to eGovernment and eBusiness applications. The electronic identity can be used in online and offline authentications.
