The ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Smart Structures and Materials SMART'11 is the fifth in a series which started in 2001 and has proceeded successfully over the years. The conference venues alternated between Portugal and Poland. Two of them took place in Lisbon and the others in Jadwisin, Gdansk and Porto. SMART'11 will bring together researchers from all over the world who will represent several fields of study related to Smart Structures and Materials research.
SMART'11, which will be held at the Saarland University campus in Saarbrücken, Germany, aims at providing a comprehensive forum for discussing the current state of the art in the field as well as generating inspiration for future ideas specifically on a multidisciplinary level.
At the conference, participants will receive the proceedings on CD-ROM and a booklet containing all abstracts of the programme contributions.
Abstracts are invited on the following topics and should be submitted using the online abstract submission system found at the conference website:
- Fundamentals of smart materials and structures
- Modelling/formulation and characterisation of smart actuators, sensors and smart material systems
- Trends and developments in diverse areas of material science including composite materials, intelligent hydrogels, interfacial phenomena, phase boundaries and boundary layers of phase boundaries, control, micro- and nano-systems, electronics, etc. to be considered for smart systems
- Comparative evaluation of different smart actuators and sensors
- Analysis of structural concepts and designs in terms of their adaptability to smart technologies
- Design and development of smart structures and systems
- Biomimetic phenomena and their inspiration in engineering
- Fabrication and testing of smart structures and systems
- Application of smart materials, structures and related technologies in smart robots, morphing wings, artificial muscles, etc.
Authors may register more than one paper. The contributions must be submitted in English. Translations into other languages will not be provided.
