Vorlauf- bzw. Nachlauffasern sind spezielle Fasern, die für OTDR-Messungen an LWL-Strecken notwendig sind. Für eine verlässliche OTDR-Messung benötigt man eine Vorlauffaser und eine Nachlauffaser. Die Vorlauffaser wird der Mess-Strecke vorgeschaltet, um die erste Steckverbindung messen und beurteilen zu können. Um auch das Streckenende in der Messung dokumentieren zu können wird die Nachlauffaser der Strecke nachgeschaltet.
