LearningTube, the innovative educational video channel from Festo, offers convenient access, bite-sized learning and worldwide availability for all employees. "This award is testament to the culture of learning that exists at Festo and belongs not only to us as the providers of LearningTube, but also to all of our authors and users who contribute to the long-term success of our e-learning vision by creating educational videos and participating in active learning," says Manuel Schmidt of the Festo Group Virtual Academy Team.
Festo actively encourages lifelong learning for all employees through initiatives such as the Virtual Academy. LearningTube is an innovation designed to help the company to achieve this goal. Stephan Fritsch, Head of Internal Training at Festo, explains: "Our training opportunities are tailored to the requirements of Festo worldwide and to the needs of our executives and employees. The training methods and content that we offer are developed in accordance with requirements derived from the Festo corporate strategy. As part of the Virtual Academy, Festo LearningTube is available worldwide and provides employees with an easy way to create their own educational videos in which they can share their expert knowledge. We are thus supporting the increasing globalisation of processes and at the same time ensuring that training needs in new technology fields are being met. We are very proud of the fact that the jury of the Society for Pedagogy and Information (GPI) decided to award us the Comenius Seal of Approval."
Two new tools for rapid e-learning
LearningTube and Recorder are the latest additions to the Virtual Academy. They provide all learners, trainers and experts with support for exchanging and communicating training content on a daily basis. Recorder is a tool that allows users to create their own videos. The videos are then uploaded to LearningTube, where they can be shared with colleagues worldwide.
Both tools support bite-sized learning and ensure that content can be published and distributed quickly. Rapid e-learning allows users to enhance their presentations with the addition of a voiceover and optional webcam video. Recorder provides help and support for creating screenshots, adding a commentary to PowerPoint presentations or even emulating software simulations. Thanks to LearningTube, these tasks can now be shared with Festo colleagues all over the world.
Promoting educational media
The Society for Pedagogy and Information (GPI), a scientific society for multimedia, educational technology and media didactics, supports educational, thematic and design excellence in information, communication and technology-supported educational media (ICT) through the Comenius Awards. The Comenius Awards have become one of the most important awards for DVDs, CD-ROMs, Internet portals and other ICT-based educational media. The awards are decided by an internationally appointed jury of media experts from 10 European countries. More than 200 educational media were appraised and evaluated in this year alone.
