Clean, pure and residue-free? - controlled surface and parts cleaning
7th Leading International Trade Fair for Cleaning within the Production Process and Maintenance from 20 to 22 October 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany
The goal of cleaning within production and the MRO processes is achieving the degree of cleanliness which is required for subsequent surface finishing, or flawless functioning of the parts. And this has to be substantiated more and more frequently. Inspection and documentation of the degree of cleanliness obtained for parts and surfaces within the cleaning process are thus gaining in significance in a broad range of industries. This necessitates analysis methods and devices which allow for simple and efficient testing for particulates and film-like residual contamination as close as possible to production. Nearly all of the renowned manufacturers from this sector will be represented at this year’s parts2clean. At the moment, more than 180 exhibitors from eleven countries have registered to participate at the Leading International Trade Fair for Cleaning within the Production Process and Maintenance, which will take place in Stuttgart from the 20th though the 22nd of October, 2009. And thus parts2clean will once again present the world’s most comprehensive offerings throughout the entire process sequence for cleaning parts and surfaces.
Evaluating Particulate Cleanliness by Comparison
Results vary depending upon which method is used to conduct cleanliness inspections. In the automotive industry, this has led to introduction of VDA 19 and ISO 16232, volumes 1 through 10, “Road vehicles – Cleanliness of components of fluid circuits”. The objective of these directives is to be able to evaluate and compare the technical cleanliness of a part by means of clear-cut, unambiguously described processes for particle extraction and analysis. “The test procedures are based on the substantiation of particulate residues from production and the environment. Other industries with strict cleanliness specifications, for example medical technology and precision engineering, as well as the optics industry, are expressing more and more interest in these standards and the procedures stipulated by them”, reports Hartmut Herdin, managing director of event promoters fairXperts GmbH.
parts2clean exhibitors such as Leica, Olympus, Pall and Carl Zeiss will present special systems in various sizes and designs for cleanliness inspection in accordance with VDA 19. These systems involve laboratory procedures by means of which minimal, and even the smallest particulate residues can be substantiated. Components are subjected to random sample inspections. Liquid particle counters, as offered by PMT and other manufacturers, allow for significantly increased random sample quantities. An extinction particle counter is at the heart of these devices. Particles are removed from the part to be cleaned by these automated systems in an ultrasonic bath. The particle counter takes liquid specimens according to programme settings and evaluates them. In order to obtain usable measurement data with a device of this sort, the parts must be free of film-like contamination, because the particle sensors are incapable of differentiating between solid particulates and droplets of oil. Measuring systems and sensors with a relatively simple and rugged detection concept will also be exhibited, which allow for the most extensive possible inspection of components close to the process, or directly within the production line.
Tracking Down Film-Like Residual Contamination
Test inks have proven their worth in tracking down film-like residual contamination, which may impair the quality of downstream processing steps such as coating, painting and hardening. They allow for quick and easy testing of surface tension. Measuring systems will also be presented which function on the basis of the relative change in luminance which results from thin layers on surfaces.
Reducing the Risk of Residual Contamination with Bath Monitoring
Bath monitoring and media treatment also make a significant contribution to meeting stipulated cleanliness specifications in a reliable, economic fashion. Amongst other devices, bubble pressure tensiometers, as supplied by Sita, for example, assure continuous monitoring of aqueous cleaning baths. They determine momentary cleaning strength and allow for consumption dependent, dosed refilling of the components included in the cleaning agent. Another system monitors and analyses the washing fluid by means of an optical process. Whether or not the bath needs to be changed is displayed automatically on the basis of the values ascertained in this way.
Cleanliness inspection and bath monitoring will also be presentation topics at the three-day parts2clean expert forum held in German. Furthermore, the presentations will also impart comprehensive know-how covering all aspects of cleaning within the production process and maintenance.
Concurrent Event: COROSAVE – Preserving Obtained Levels of Cleanliness
Appropriate measures are necessary during storage and transport in order to not only achieve specified residual contamination limits values, but rather to preserve them until components are delivered or assembled. These issues will be addressed by the COROSAVE international trade fair for corrosion protection, preservation and packaging, which will take place concurrent to parts2clean. It covers the entire spectrum of temporary corrosion protection in production, as well as the preservation and packaging of parts and components. This makes it possible for visitors to gather information concerning product and service offerings for two important production and maintenance tasks with a single trade fair visit.
parts2clean Congress – Knowledge Concerning International Markets
Within the framework of parts2clean 2009, an international, bilingual congress (German/English) entitled “Worldwide Requirements, Technologies and Markets” will be held on the 19th and 20th of October for the first time ever. This event will provide valuable knowledge concerning industrial cleaning markets in Europe, Asia and North America. Amongst others, further topics include requirements for cleaning and cleanliness in the automotive industry and medical engineering, the state-of-the-art and developmental trends for process control in industrial parts cleaning, as well as current and future, cleaning and analysis requirements in the semiconductor and electronics industries.
