(PresseBox) (Stuttgart, )
Once a year, the Specialist Association Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes (FSK) honours innovative ideas, products and processes in the categories Design and Construction, as well as Technology and/or Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Alternating annually the focus is on either foams or polyurethanes. This year focuses on new developments from the world of polyurethanes.

Throughout Europe, junior professionals, specialists, senior professionals and companies are invited to submit their innovative developments in and around polyurethane. Both individuals and groups can apply. Different criteria applies for evaluating innovations, which are submitted in two categories. Last year the Innovation Award 2016 was presented for seven outstanding innovations in the field of foamed plastics, impressively demonstrating the variety of new products and applications. BASF Polyurethanes GmbH presented its high-performance insulation panel SLENTITE®. The unique combination of material properties exhibits an extremely high and moisture-regulating insulation performance. The Swedish company Cellutech AB developed the environmentally friendly multifunctional foam CELLUFOAM made of wood. It is not only suitable for acoustic and thermal insulation and liquid absorption but also as packaging material. Eurofoam Deutschland GmbH introduced the new mattress foam xdura®, offering an ideal microclimate along with highest comfort, elasticity and internal stability. ISL Schaumstoff-Technik GmbH presented a robust, space-saving folding container, an extremely flexible and sustainable transport system. The graduate student Georg Tauer received the junior professional award in the category ‘Technology’ for his master thesis on the production of particle foams with variable skin thickness.

In the category ‘Design and Construction’, the Rotterdam design agency Nightshop captivated with its Showdown carpets, revealing the shear endless creative potential of polyurethane foam for large-format art objects. As a new artist, designer Teresa Mendler was distinguished for her Office Pieces. Using PUR foam in combination with fabric, she creates aesthetic, three-dimensional, spatial objects, which can be used optionally as room dividers or artistic acoustic elements in large rooms.

The Specialist Association Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes is looking forward to new ideas and innovations from the world of polyurethanes. Application deadline is 31 August 2017; application documents can be requested immediately and are found on the FSK-Website.
