Seit März 2004 wertet der SPIXX monatlich 180 wichtige Keywords aus 15 Kategorien aus und ermittelt so Verschiebungen und Trends. Stichtag für die Erstellung der in Umfang und Aussagekraft einzigartigen Analyse ist der 10. jedes Monats.
Ganz gleich, ob man beispielsweise nach „PC“, „Scanner“, „Rock“ oder einem anderen konsumrelevanten Keyword sucht – bei den Suchmaschinen und Portalen von Overture rangiert eBay zumindest bei den günstigeren Suchbegriffen zurzeit weit oben. Unkonventionell verlief offenbar der Preisfindungsprozess: eBay hat für alle Suchbegriffe einheitlich 50 Cent geboten, unabhängig vom aktuellen Preisniveau und dem Wert des Keywords. Damit muss ein Mitbewerber für diesen Suchbegriff mindestens 0,51 Euro zahlen, um vor eBay auf einem vorderen Platz zu stehen.
Überlagert wurde diese Entwicklung von Branchentrends: Während Keywords der Kategorie „Computing“ laut SPIXX durchschnittlich um 12 Prozent teurer geworden sind, verzeichnet „Beauty“ einen Rückgang um 20 Prozent. Eine Normalisierung gibt es unter anderem bei einzelnen Keywords wie „Digitalcamera“ und „Kredit“: Die im Mai deutlich erhöhten Werbeausgaben erwiesen sich offenbar als unwirtschaftlich.
