The Open University of Hong Kong Chooses a Suite of Ex Libris Products

The Company's excellent international track record and a solution that manages the full spectrum of library resources were among the reasons for choosing Ex Libris products

(PresseBox) (Singapore, )
Ex Libris® Group is pleased to announce that the Stanley Ho Library of the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has acquired a suite of Ex Libris products: the Aleph® integrated library system (ILS), the MetaLib® gateway and metasearch portal, the SFX® OpenURL link resolver, and the Primo® discovery and delivery solution, which will provide a unified interface for the Library's entire collection.

Following an intensive evaluation process, OUHK chose the Ex Libris solutions to improve the user experience and maximize the efficiency of Library staff. The Ex Libris Aleph ILS will replace the library's Dynix Classic system, which was used for internal operations and the cataloging of the Library's 126,000 printed and audiovisual items. The Library-which also provides online access to 17,400 electronic serials including full-text e-journals and bibliographic databases, and 17,900 e-books-will make all of its resources available to end users via Primo.

"We were very pleased to be able to work with a single vendor to implement our complete library solution," explained Ms. Wong Wai Man, chief librarian at the Open University of Hong Kong. "We were impressed not only by the technological sophistication of the Ex Libris products but also by the Company's strategic direction. The experience and level of expertise exhibited by the Ex Libris personnel with whom we worked, the recommendations of other sites in the region, and the reasonable pricing greatly motivated our decision."

Jason Tan, sales director for Southeast Asia at Ex Libris, commented: "We are proud to have the opportunity to welcome the Open University of Hong Kong to our continually growing Southeast Asian customer base. All of our products are designed and developed for a global market. Ex Libris places a great deal of emphasis on multilingual, multiscript functionality as well as on the integration of content and services that support the regional needs of our international customers; our users who speak Chinese, Japanese, and Korean have received the many recent enhancements of our products and services with great enthusiasm. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with OUHK and to many new installations in Hong Kong's academic institutions."
