Ex Libris Australia Announces Several New Primo Sales

The Primo discovery and delivery solution continues to attract Australian state and academic libraries

(PresseBox) (Adelaide, Australia, )
Ex Libris Australia is pleased to announce that four additional institutions in Australia have recently selected the Company's Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Joining other Australian customers of Ex Libris products and the rapidly expanding international Primo community are the State Library of Victoria (SLV), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Curtin University of Technology, and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).

Following a thorough evaluation process in which a number of discovery and delivery products were examined, the State Library of Victoria chose the Primo solution. Among the features that make this solution attractive to Australian state libraries are its sophisticated search options and its ability to integrate with the SFX® OpenURL link resolver and the MetaLib® gateway and metasearch portal, both from Ex Libris. "We are delighted to have found a complete solution for our library, comments Ian Patterson, Chief Technology Officer at SLV. "Primo can be easily configured and maintained by non-IT staff, and most important, it will readily deal with the vast quantities of our bibliographic data and diverse collections."

Imogen Garner, University Librarian at Curtin University of Technology, notes, "Curtin is a long-time user of Ex Libris products. After beginning with the Aleph® integrated library system, we went on to add MetaLib, SFX, and DigiTool® to provide access to our electronic and digital resources. A principal factor in our decision to make Primo the unified entry point to all of our collections was its Web 2.0 functionalities. We expect our users to be very keen on tagging and reviewing items."

"Primo's capacity to provide access to materials from disparate sources via one user interface fills a major gap that had existed in our information infrastructure," explains Andrew Wells, University Librarian at the University of New South Wales. "Primo will enable our students and researchers to discover our e resources, books, conference papers, and digital collections."

According to Library Director Rod Stroud at AIASTIS, "the expectations of our user base do not always go hand in hand with our existing IT infrastructure, so the Primo Direct solution meets our needs perfectly. Primo Direct, offering the powerful discovery capabilities of Primo as a service, in an environment that is hosted and maintained by Ex Libris, can be implemented quickly. As a result, our users will be able to benefit from the Primo experience as soon as possible."

"Ex Libris Australia is honored to welcome these distinguished institutions to the international Primo user community," notes Douglas Barnard, Managing Director of Ex Libris, Australasia. "Primo's intuitive search interface, with sophisticated technology behind the scenes, makes it easy for users to find and access resources from print, electronic, and digital collections. In addition, the open architecture of Primo, which enables users to develop code extensions for adoption by their libraries-as well as by other members of the Primo community-is an extremely attractive feature for the academic and state libraries in our region."
