EWM at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN

14th to 19th September 2009 / Essen Trade Fair, hall 2.0, stand 118 / "The new era of welding"

(PresseBox) (Mündersbach, Germany, )
This is the theme under which the German market leader, EWM HIGHTEC WELDING, once again presents new developments and the latest procedures when it comes to joining, cutting and coating. Live demonstrations at the 260 m² stand give visitors an insight into practical solutions with the latest welding technology.

The innovative procedures from Research & Development in Mündersbach - EWM forceArc®/coldArc® and their combination, as well as EWM spotArc® and activArc® - have led the international welding technology field for years. With the brand new development EWM focusArc® - a high-performance TIG welding procedure - the company now lays a further milestone in joining technology.

Premium quality from A to Z: The welding system makes the difference

System (welding power source with control), torch, welding filler materials, accessory components: only when everything harmonises perfectly and when every link in the process chain is of the highest quality can the welder or the robot "deliver" a perfect weld seam. EWM enhances the "joining process" technology chain with superior welding filler materials, adhering strictly to its standards for premium quality.

Innovation EWM focusArc®: a high-performance TIG joining procedure, powerful and precise. A contender for plasma and laser

Right on time for the "welding technology Olympics", EWM presents a further innovative procedure for the first time: EWM focusArc® - a new high-performance tungsten inert gas (TIG) joining process, for powerful, precise and fast welding and brazing, with an extremely concentrated arc that has a high energy density.

Several companies, mainly from the car industry, have already put EWM focusArc® through its paces and found it to be outstanding: when brazing roof seams and long seams on the outer shells of vehicle bodywork. focusArc® achieved a welding speed of five metres per minute when brazing bodywork made from galvanised steel sheets and with CuSi as a filler material. The first results that only hint at the future potential of focusArc®.

Further successful applications: welding exhaust manifolds, pedals or longitudinal seams on chrome/nickel/steel pipes. The results are impressive and demonstrate the promising possibilities of this new welding process. The quality and efficiency of all of the welding seams are excellent. The brazing results are comparable with those of a laser, in terms of joining speed and seam quality.

The contender, focusArc®, also proved its efficiency here. With its low investment and operating costs the joining system shone out compared to the laser and, in comparison with plasma processes, with significantly lower expenditures for replacement and spare parts. The interaction of all components in the EWM focusArc® joining system is decisive for this: focusArc® 532, focusArc® 1002 and focusArc® 352 AC/DC power sources with highly dynamic inverter process controls, innovative torches, reverse cooling units as well as accessory components for wire feeding.

The TIG DC welding systems use a negative poled electrode (DC-). As well as using alternating current (AC), the AC/DC system can also work with a positive electrode (DC+).

Events connected to the trade fair

EWM Award - visions generate the innovations of the future

The "EWM Award - Physics of Welding" was announced last year on the occasion of the company's 50th anniversary. This prize advances innovative ideas from young scientists that lead to a significantly deeper understanding of welding technology processes.

Before the start of the trade fair on Sunday 13.09.2009, EWM will award the trainee development prize worth 30,000 EURO, for the first time, as part of the "Great Welding Conference". The winner of the competition will be available during the trade fair to answer questions about his or her work.

DVS competition "Young welder of the year" - EWM invests in qualified trainees.

As the main sponsor for the 8th national DVS "Young welder of the year" competition in TIG welding, EWM is also involved in the advancement of young talents in welding technology. As part of this competition, EWM will stage the "TIG action day" on Wednesday 16.09.2009, with programme items that not only address in-depth specialised issues but that are also attractive.
