Among the duties for the 11-ton-class helicopter will be offshore transportation and logistics flights covered in Blueway's North Sea services contract with Maersk Oil, which broadens the company's presence in this important marketplace.
To support Blueway in its bid for these services, Eurocopter assisted the company by ensuring a timely helicopter delivery slot and adapting commercial conditions to best meet the customer's needs. Additionally, Eurocopter will help identify business opportunities for the smaller EC155 B1 helicopters that also are in Blueway's fleet.
The EC225 offers superior speed, range, payload, optimal safety and reliability for the offshore oil and gas industry. It is the latest generation member of Eurocopter's Super Puma/Cougar family, which has flown more than 4 million flight hours. The EC225 can accommodate up to 19 passengers for offshore crew change flights.
"Blueway is pleased to sign for the fourth EC225, which will be operated in support of the Maersk Oil contract, as well as for future opportunities in North Europe," said Jakob Bae, who recently was named Blueway's Chief Executive Officer. "The helicopter will be based in Denmark's Esbjerg area, positioning Blueway for additional opportunities in the oil and gas market."
Blueway has provided helicopter services since 1986, with activities in the oil and offshore, infrastructure, environment and search & rescue sectors. Following its 2008 acquisition of Danish helicopter company DanCopter A/S, Blueway operates a fleet of some 25 rotary-wing aircraft and has approximately 210 employees.
