New incentives for the use of virtual reality (VR) in product development – this is the idea behind ICIDO’s creation of the award. The search focuses on par-ticularly innovative VR applications in companies, institutes and research es-tablishments throughout Europe, where these applications have been developed in the last two years and where utility is clearly in the forefront. The competition especially favours candidates who break away from prevalent thought patterns to break new ground, for example with new processes, new industries and new technologies. Those who are interested may submit their application documents up to 15 August 2008.
The jury is composed of representatives from science, the media and industry, including Christoph Runde (Virtual Dimension Center, Fellbach), Andreas Rössler (Esslingen University of Applied Sciences), Anton Fuhrmann (Centre for Virtual Reality and Visualisation, Vienna), Tom Sperlich (specialised journalist, Zurich), Dr. Axel Zweck (VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH) and Ralf Breining (ICIDO, Stuttgart). The jury’s selection criteria include the application’s uniqueness and degree of innovation, its significance for the VR market, and its measurable utility and commercialisation potential. The winner will be announced and the VR Excellence Award will be conferred on 25 September 2008 in the context of a celebratory gala at the ICIDO Summit in Stuttgart.
