The S1D13U11, which began volume production in 2010, has earned high marks for its easy-to-use USB interface. It has been embedded in a variety of devices with displays, including control panels on office and factory automation equipment, advertising display panels, and amusement equipment.
The S1D13U11 was originally designed only to support Linux, but now Epson has added support for Windows 7 in response to increasing demand for Windows-based point-of-sale terminals. Customers can begin using the S1D13U11 with Windows 7 by installing the Windows driver on the CPU.
The USB interface of the S1D13U11 lets customers easily set up a data link between the host CPU and a color TFT LCD panel with a single USB cable. This helps reduce cable clutter and enables the use of long cables and special connections such as rotating hinges, allowing for smaller and more versatile designs for devices with displays.
The Windows 7 driver for the S1D13U11 also adds support for controlling a sub-display connected to the host CPU. This enables the development of an even greater variety of convenient point-of-sale systems. Epson also offers the S5U13U11P00C100 board, which lets customers easily connect the S1D13U11 via USB cable and test it with products that are still under development.
Going forward, Epson will continue to contribute to the development of a variety of products with its original microdevices.
