For a long time, there was a lack of a definition of the characteristics in the field of so-called grid forming – for grid operators as well as for manufacturers and plant owners. Initial drafts of definitions and standards are now available, but these still need to be discussed both in Europe and internationally. A central discussion platform for industry and research will be provided by the 22nd Wind & Solar Integration Workshop, which will be held in Copenhagen from 26-28 September 2023.
In a total of more than 30 sessions, over 150 presenters will share their insights on grid integration of variable renewables. This year, there will be a special focus on Grid Forming, which will be represented by more than 30 presentations in six dedicated workshop sessions and an additional tutorial.
In Session 4A, “Grid Forming Inverters – Specifications and Experience,” for example, the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will present U.S. developments, while National Grid UK and the Australian Market Operator AEMO will present their approaches. The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) will report on the current status of European definitions and regulations.
In the Grid Forming Tutorial, Julia Matevosyan of ESIG, Inga Skrypalle (Vestas), Georg Deiml and Sebastian Höhn (TenneT) and Deepak Ramasubramanian of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) offer even more in-depth insights into the highly demanded topic. This advanced level tutorial will also be part of the Renewable Energy Grid Integration Week and takes place in the afternoon of 25 September 2023.
Also part of the week of events is the 7th E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium, also taking place in Copenhagen on 25 September. Registration for the 7th E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium, the 22nd Wind & Solar Integration Workshop, the grid forming tutorial and accompanying events like study trips and networking events is now open!
