New Safety Feature Enhances Elatec RFID Readers

Firmware update enables wired host communication secured by 128bit encryption

Haar, (PresseBox) - RFID applications can now benefit from raised security levels: A firmware update provides Elatec RFID readers with 128bit strong encryption to safeguard the data connection to their host. The implemented encryption algorithm helps protect the transmitted data including access authorizations, identities or control commands against eavesdropping or tampering by unauthorized individuals.

Starting immediately, Elatec Vertriebs GmbH offers a firmware update for its RFID readers that will activate encrypted data communication through the wired interface leading to the connected host system. The RFID applications in use benefit from a 128bit strong real-time encryption process without the need for additional encryption hardware or any further implementation work.

Particularly in application fields where the RFID reader is operated at a distance from the host system - in access control solutions, user identification, or electronic goods surveillance, for example - line encryption offers an additional, high degree of safety. Unauthorized individuals are prevented from tapping the transferred data in readable form or to tamper with them unnoticed without knowing the 128bit long secret key.
