DORMA to present six new products at BAU 2015

Innovation offensive driven by dedicated innovation management

(PresseBox) (Ennepetal, )
DORMA can already look back on a long and impressive run of market-defining innovations - the cam-action door closer, the first concealed door closer, a series of electromechanical swing door operators, plus emergency escape locks and high-quality glass fittings offering excellence in both function and design. Now the company wants to add another chapter to this success story.

Appearing at BAU 2015 under the banner slogan "Access to Innovation," DORMA will be presenting six new products ready for distribution. The company is also showcasing the prototype of an extremely flat, gearless and low-noise direct drive for revolving doors that follows on from a study presented two years ago in Munich.

"For DORMA, BAU 2015 marks the start of an innovation offensive. Our aim over the next few years is to convert our innovative strengths - apparent not least from our lead position in original patent applications - into additional and more far-reaching market success," declares Thomas P. Wagner, CEO of the DORMA Group. Among the six new products, visitors will be able to see once again the flattest electronic fitting available in the marketplace - MATRIX AIR - which celebrated its debut at Security 2014 in Essen, Germany. The new electronic access control product family combines exceptional styling with wide application coverage yet also offers reduced model variety and simple, fast installation.

Alluring design, exceptional quality, advanced technology, improved operability and convenience and effortless installation are the common denominators linking the six new products, each of which reflects the DORMA brand values to an outstanding degree.

In addition to the products celebrating their premiere at BAU 2015, DORMA is also showcasing a completely new range of glass architectural hardware; a further development of the AGILE manual sliding door with additional features aligned to convenience and ease of use; two horizontal sliding walls (HSW) offering, among other things, simplified installation and more security options; and also a folding door that combines maximum through-passage width with exceptional thermal insulation.

"Our innovation philosophy is quite simple: innovation is anything that benefits the customer. Consequently, the focus of our trade show content at BAU 2015 will be on the presentation of the various benefits of our new products for our different customer groups - architects and specifiers, fabricators and installers, and building users and operators," Wagner explains.

Dedicated innovation management

The six new products alone have resulted in DORMA registering 90 patents.

Going forward, the company intends to maintain its dedicated approach to innovation management in order to properly convert its innovative strength into tangible market success. DORMA's internal "MIND" process (Management of Innovation from Need to Demand), which the company introduced in 2011, provides an essential basis for the systematic planning, control and monitoring of innovation projects and the subsequent market launch.

"Innovations can only be successful if they are closely aligned to customer and market requirements, are based on a solid business analysis, and the period from idea to realization can be reliably estimated," says Peter Fischer, Vice President Global Marketing & Sales at the DORMA Group. "In addition to the current examples being showcased, we also have a number of other innovation projects at an advanced stage of development," Fischer adds.

With the close involvement of the Global R&D department located at its HQ, DORMA has built a Technology Center in Ennepetal - completed at the beginning of the year - that now has responsibility for prototyping new products. Initial production also takes place in its ramp-up section. The underlying aim is to reduce the time to manufacturing maturity, to quickly raise new products to the highest possible quality level and thus to expedite their launch onto the market.
