Cost-effectively communicating in existing LTE networks
“It will be apparent that for example in ports, the communication will be based on LTE”, explains Manfred Lachauer, General Manager of Advantech-DLoG. Building up standalone communication networks is hardly a profitable venture because of cost; therefore use of existing networks is crucial for access and cost reduction. The new DLT-V4108 was equipped with Wi-Fi, WWAN and GPS to provide the required connectivity.
Since external antennas for Wi-Fi, GPS, and WWAN can be easily connected and quickly put into operation, the communication is secured, even in closed vehicle cabins. With the DLT-V4108, a secure connection between terminal and IT even in the case of high data volume is guaranteed. Thanks to the DLT-V4108, port vehicles or forklifts are permanently and continuously online.
Logisticians love keyboards
In addition to a communicative terminal, the goal was to develop a powerful and user-friendly successor for the already existing, outdated terminals with a keyboard that are currently on the market.
The integrated keyboard provides customers with a significant added value. It simplifies and speeds up data entry, reduces input errors by haptic feedback, and saves space and costs, as an external keyboard can be abandoned. The brightness of the keyboard and display can be set independently as required. For example, a fully illuminated keyboard is not required in outdoor areas and sunlight, but a very bright display is required for good readability.
The logistical added value
The color display of the new vehicle terminal promises further added value, which is equipped with a capacitive multi-touch screen in contrast to other terminals with a keyboard on the market. While resistive touch screens are prone to abrasion and scratches, the projective capacitive touch screen (PCT) is extremely resistant to external effects, yet still highly sensitive.
The DLT-V4108 is “Always-on”, because of being equipped with an integrated battery for an uninterrupted power supply, which prevents communication breaks even if the voltage drops or the power supply is interrupted. The DLT-V4108 can be configured in a variety of ways to meet the specific requirements of each company and its environment.
