Jacob von Uexküll ist Begründer des Alternativen Nobelpreises, der keine Kategorien kennt, sondern das persönliche Engagement von Menschen würdigt, die sich vor Ort um praktische Lösungen wie den Bau von Bewässerungsanlagen und Schulen bemühen. Uexküll ist auch Initiator des Weltzukunftsrates, dessen Hauptsitz seit 2006 in Hamburg ist und der es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, Politiker bei Wegen aus Klima-, Ressourcen- und Finanzkrisen zu unterstützen.
"Angesichts seiner Vita hätte der DJV Hamburg kaum einen geeigneteren Laudator gewinnen können, um die beiden mit dem Erich-Klabunde-Preis für sozialpolitisch engagierten Journalismus ausgezeichneten Arbeiten adäquat zu würdigen; noch dazu überreicht in Hamburg - der Umwelthauptstadt 2011", freut sich die Vorsitzende Marina Friedt.
