In each edition of the monthly broadcast in English and German, Sarah Willis (44) will present European concert highlights, showcase top events and welcome a star guest. In the first run of six episodes, the British host, who was born in the US, but grew up in Tokyo, Boston and Moscow, gives audiences around the globe a peek behind the scenes of current productions. Sarah Willis is considered one of the best horn players in the world, and became the Berliner Philharmoniker's first female brass player in 2001. "Classical music has so many secrets. I'm excited to let people in on a few of them in my show," she said.
Among other things, the first episode will feature a trip to the Kulturforum Festival in Berlin. Sarah Willis has a look as British conductor Sir Simon Rattle rehearses with a children's choir. In an interview, the principal conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker explains how important working with children is in order to bring them into contact with the world of classical music. The first broadcast can be seen on DW on Friday, June 27, at 8:45 pm UTC.
Deutsche Welle commissioned an Austrian team specializing in classical music - Bernhard Fleischer Moving Images (BFMI) - for the production. The company is among the world's leading producers of audiovisual content in the genre.
