First Ultra HD (4K) consumer TV displays, the first TV productions in Ultra HD, and more and more movies in 4K - all signs indicate that a new digital TV standard is getting ready for its breakthrough. But there are also critical statements regarding Ultra HD (4K), ranging from "incomplete standard" and "expensive technology with limited use" to "broadcasters are still struggling with HDTV." The project team "Ultra HD (4K)" is prepared to face these discussions and is offering a special event. On September 7, 2013, from 13.00 to 15.00, all interested IFA 2013 visitors can attend a special session in the TecWatch-Forum (hall 11.1).
The event "Ultra HD (4K) - hype or realistic scenario?" consists of two parts: A series of experts' presentations and a panel discussion. Both will be held in English [E] or German [G]. The program details are:
- Introduction: Beyond HDTV and 3DTV, Dr. Helmut Stein (German TV Platform, DVB Project) [G]
- Sony 4K Technology, Mark Londero (Sony Europe) [E]

After the event all participants are invited to the "Ultra HD (4K)" booth, an international collaboration with four areas. The info area provides an overview of Ultra HD (4K) with the latest information and details about the project team. In the "Home Entertainment" area visitors can experience the excellent image quality of Ultra HD (4K) in different home entertainment scenarios from still images to 60p sport contents under the slogan "Future is now". Three "living room" areas of the joint booth unveil a new TV experience with Ultra HD: The first living room "Ultra HD (4K) meets 3D" highlights how 3D will benefit from the higher resolution that Ultra HD (4K) provides. In the "Satellite transmission & reception (HEVC)" area the partners will demonstrate that all technology required to broadcast Ultra HD (4K) content over satellite to end customers is now available and interoperable - including a demonstration channel. The third living room, "New TV concepts", offers an insight into new product ideas for the presentation of live events in Ultra HD (4K).
Throughout IFA all visitors are invited to gather comprehensive information about Ultra HD (4K) from 6 to 11 September 2013, daily 10:00 to 18:00 in TecWatch (hall 11.1), booth 15 (center of the hall).
