International booth at IFA 2013 hints new TV experience with Ultra HD (4K)

(PresseBox) (Frankfurt am Main, )
Ultra HD (4K) is the next step beyond HDTV and will offer a new TV experience for consumers. Visitors of IFA 2013 in Berlin can sample the fascinating display quality, new TV concepts, Ultra HD (4K) and 3D Home Entertainment at an international booth at TecWatch. At booth 15 in hall 11.1 partners ASTRA, German TV Platform, Fraunhofer HHI, Harmonic, Sky Deutschland and Sony, demonstrate present and future of digital TV.

While HDTV is reaching more and more households today, the next big thing - Ultra HD (4K) - has already been introduced. With 3.840 x 2.160 pixels - four times the full HD resolution - the new TV standard offers viewers a completely new experience. First generation Ultra HD (4K) displays hitting the market these days provide for watching photos as well as up-scaled HD content (incl. Blu-ray) in higher resolution. In addition distribution of native Ultra HD (4K) content to consumers has just started.

To inform trade visitors as well as consumers and to demonstrate the current and future potential of Ultra HD, six partners combine their activities at the IFA 2013: ASTRA, German TV-Platform, Fraunhofer HHI, Harmonic, Sky Deutschland and Sony join forces at TecWatch, the innovation center of IFA, where visitors will find the international booth "Ultra HD (4K)" with four areas:

The info area provides an overview of Ultra HD (4K) with the latest information and details about the project team. Additional visitors can experience in the area "Home Entertainment" the improved image quality of Ultra HD (4K) in different home entertainment scenarios under the slogan "Future is now".

Three "living room" areas of the joint booth hint new TV experience with Ultra HD: The first living room "Ultra HD (4K) meets 3D" highlights how 3D will benefit from the higher resolution that Ultra HD (4K) provides.

In the area "Satellite transmission & reception (HEVC)" the partners demonstrate, that all technology required to broadcast Ultra HD (4K) content over satellite to end customers is now available and interoperable. A demonstration channel with a mixture of content examples including sports, blockbuster movies and documentaries will be shown with an Ultra HD/4K HEVC DVB-S2 receiver provided by Technicolor.

The third living room, "New TV concepts", offers an insight into new product ideas for the presentation of live events in Ultra HD (4K).

All IFA visitors are invited to gather comprehensive information about the state of development beyond HDTV, to get first impressions of the future of TV and to experience of today 4K Entertainment:
