DAVID Systems announces integration with long-term planning tool Plato 3

Editorial online planning system fully integrated in Broadcast Server environment

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
New in DAVID Systems' product portfolio is the interface between their Broadcast Server on-air technology and the online planning system Plato 3 by Plantri. The interface allows for a complete synchronization between program planning and on-air scheduling systems.

Digital media and team-centered production workflows pose a new challenge for program planning in radio and TV. Contributions are edited and maintained by different teams not only up to the time they are transmitted but also for analysis, research and archiving processes after they have been broadcast. Simultaneous, location-independent access to the current planning data, quick rescheduling in case of changes, and a permanent overview of the current topics for the editor-in-chief are only a few of the high demands on a modern broadcast planning software. Plato is a database driven online system for real time editorial planning of radio and television programs which has proven its unconditional reliability in continuous operation in public broadcasters' editorial departments for more than seven years. Plato provides a central tool for all editorial staff for the efficient planning, research and archiving of entire programs, individual segments, contact information, and events equipped with cutting-edge web 2.0 software technology.

DAVID Systems has integrated Plato functionality in their on-air environment as well as in the Database Manager (DBM). Both companies collaborated to develop an interface that allows for a complete synchronization between program planning and on-air scheduling systems. Export of segment metadata and synchronization of segments is done through DBM while export of segment broadcast data and synchronization of broadcast time and slot is done through DigAIRrange. The Broadcast Utility Server imports the broadcast data based on the current rundown. Plato transfers scheduled contributions to the on-air storage which are listed there as virtual entries and aligns them constantly. Changes in the DBM are immediately transferred to the planning system and vice versa. If Plato takes a contribution over to a show, it is automatically transferred to DigAIRrange as well and is available as a placeholder for the producer in the pre-planning area. Changes continue to be aligned between the two systems until the contribution is played out.

"With the Plato integration, we closed the gap between long-term program planning and on-air scheduling", said Thorsten Michaelis, Chief of Support Department at Radio Berlin Brandenburg. "Our Broadcast Server can now take over contributions from the editorial planning automatically including metadata - and all that is synchronized in real-time and is always up-to-date."
