The 2 MW wind turbine systems, equipped with Converteam technology will be supplying the Texan grid with power by mid 2011. The new wind farm with a maximum power rating of 600 MW is located on a 15,000 hectare plot on the western fringe of Texas. The farm itself is regarded as the most significant American-Chinese joint acquisition in the field of renewable energy. Once completed, the wind farm will be able to provide approximately 170,000 American households with all the power they need.
Converteam is driving forward its prime position as a technological leader for electrical equipment on the international wind power market through its converter and generator solutions. The 2 MW converters selected for the project are fulfilling all the stringent requirements of the American grid guidelines. The converters will be manufactured at the Conveream production site in Germany and in Shanghai, China.
With a market share of 25% (Frost & Sullivan)* Converteam has emerged as the market leader amongst all the non-integrated wind converter suppliers and is a leading supplier of power conversion solutions for most of the infrastructure and energy sectors with an established position in the wind, solar and wet renewables.
